‘If a successful conductor is a strong communicator who has imagination, gives clear directions and can engage the musicians wholeheartedly, then the Norwegian conductor Eivind Aadland is pure gold’

— THE AUSTRALIAN

Long established as one of Scandinavia’s most respected conductors, Eivind Aadland recently renewed his contract as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, having formed an instant and responsive bond with the orchestra when he first conducted them in 2018.

At home in Norway, he maintains a close relationship with Oslo Philharmonic as a guest conductor and through his commitment to relationships with Dirigentloftet, a mentoring scheme for young Norwegian conductors and the National Youth Orchestras. His musical sensitivity and calm leadership also makes him a favourite collaborator for singers and he has conducted productions of Don GiovanniLe nozze di FigaroDie Zauberflöte and Die Fledermaus for Den Norske Opera, Oslo.

He has fostered loyal relationships with orchestras around the world, including WDR Symphony Orchestra Köln, with whom he recorded a definitive five-volume set of Grieg’s complete symphonic works. Two projects he has conducted in Norway and Australia are Faure’s Requiem (Sky Burial by Mat Collishaw) and Over Seas, a celebration of water with visual artist Elina Brotherus.  In 2026 he will conduct the Belgian National Orchestra in a performance of William Kentridge's Oh To Believe in Another World: Shostakovich 10.

Aadland is an avid collector of contemporary art, with a collection encompassing the diverse media of painting, photography, video and installation.
